Aldersly, a not-for-profit senior community in Marin County, kicked off its 100th anniversary celebration on Dec. 11 with an event for residents at its San Rafael campus.

Approximately 125 residents, staff and board members enjoyed a traditional gourmet Danish holiday dinner prepared by Executive Chef Joshua Seibert, in the style of Aldersly’s dedication dinner, which took place on Dec. 11, 1921. Toasts were offered by Aldersly Executive Director Gilbert Carrasco, board President Peter Schakow and board member and former San Rafael mayor Al Boro. Themed balloons, flowers, corsages and boutonnieres, and a special photo backdrop created a gala atmosphere for residents who have been isolated during the pandemic — providing a much-anticipated lifting of spirits. Live music and presentations were rounded out by a surprise giveaway and an impromptu dance party. Carrasco announced that Aldersly will be celebrating its 100th anniversary throughout 2022, including a community event to celebrate with neighbors and other Marin residents, details to be announced.
